The Practitioner's Introductionto the Concepts and Practices of

This website provides learning materials for an
introduction to the philosophy and mechanics of performing financial
analyses on projects. The materials provided are designed for the
practitioner interested in learning the art and techniques of financially
assessing a project. That practitioner may be a university student just
learning the art or an employee desiring to assist their organization in
making better, informed evidenced-based decisions. The materials provided
extend beyond the topic’s conceptual introduction by providing enough “how
to” details to allow the novice to advance from little understanding of
financial analysis to being able to perform the tasks necessary to fully
assess the financial impact of proposed projects.
The materials provided combine three integrated components to accelerate the user’s learning. Those coponents are the text, videos (8) and Excel® workbooks (3). All downloadable below.

Excel® Workbooks There are three downloadable Excel Workbooks (Workbook#1, Workbook#2, Workbook#3) <<Download ALL Workbooks>> All of the spreadsheets used in the videos, all the spreadsheets presented in the text, plus a number of templates that are useful as starting points for projects are included as the third learning component. These individual worksheets (19 different worksheets in total) are organized into three Excel® workbooks. All three workbooks are downloadable in a single ZIP file.

The first workbook, “Project_Finance_Videos_Spreadsheet_Compilation.xls,”
includes 11 spreadsheets utilized in all the videos plus a couple of
generic templates. The inclusion of these spreadsheets allow the reader
to gain skills by working in in Excel® in parallel with the video

This third workbook entitled “ACN_Free_Cash_Flow_Model_Data_0422.xls”
contains the information for Chapter 3 of the text (in four worksheets).
The first tab is a generic free cash flow model template that can be
utilized with any downloadable income statement, balance sheet, and
statement of cash flow for any firm. The workbook provides an example
using data for Accenture (ticker: ACN) that was downloaded from
http://financials.morningstar.com/income-statement/is.html?t=ACN®ion=usa&culture=en-US.

About the Author
Dr. Timothy L. Faley
is an educator, strategist, consultant, researcher and author focused on
accelerating the creation and development of new products, processes,
businesses and economies. His engineering and business career has
bridged both industry and academia. He currently holds the Kiril
Sokoloff endowed chair for entrepreneurship where he teaches innovation,
entrepreneurship and corporate finance. Prior to joining UVI, he was the
managing director of the Samuel Zell & Robert H. Lurie Institute for
Entrepreneurial Studies and adjunct professor of entrepreneurship in the
Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
Prior to Michigan he worked in industry in
research, new product development, new business development, financial
analyses, technology licensing, and corporate venture capital.
